This course provides an introduction to the American legal system. The introduction to the legal system will highlight the structure of and relationship between the legal system on both the federal and state levels, the sources of law (the Constitution, statutes, regulations, court decisions), the basic areas of substantive law, and a very brief introduction to legal research, in both traditional book form and the Internet. Topics will include overviews of Civil Procedure, Contracts, Corporations, Criminal Law, Health Law, Property, and Torts.
